Awesome Artists We’ve Found Around The Net: C. A. Martin

For years, Awesome Art We’ve Found Around The Net has been about two things only – awesome art and the artists that create it. With that in mind, we thought why not take the first week of the month to showcase these awesome artists even more? Welcome to “Awesome Artist We’ve Found Around The Net.” In this column, we are focusing on one artist and the awesome art that they create, whether they be amateur, up and coming, or well established. JOBLO: What got you started as an artist?

COURTNEY: I’ve been drawing since I was four years old, but I did not show any special talent for it as a kid. My older sister was into drawing and painting and I figured I could do it, too. Starting around age 11, I developed the interest and the drive to draw and it became my main hobby. I particularly loved drawing from photographs and trying to draw as realistically as I could.

After 11 years on Etsy, I finally made the move to sell my abstract paintings and prints directly through my own website. Since becoming an Etsy seller in 2011, the site has grown so large that visibility without exorbitant advertising is virtually non-existent. Coupled with the recent 30% increase in selling fees from 5% to 6.5% on top of their other transaction fees, I decided the time is right to go it alone.

I'm very proud of the quality of my abstract paintings and giclée prints and I am quietly shipping out doodle orders when I'm not illustrating. I know my abstract art is a world away from my pop culture illustration work, but they are both very important to me and I hope to be able to grow my doodle audience and continue to bring in passive income from my paintings so that I can comfortably focus on my illustration work.
